Internationally renowned artist Graeme Mortimer Evelyn has been appointed to create a Reredos, for the new church in Hale Village, St Francis at the Engine Room. Studio space has been donated by Lee Valley Estates and Graeme will spend six months near to Hale Village working on the project.

He hopes his presence in the Village and Engine Room will encourage residents to get involved more in art and plans to use the project to mentor a local young artist. The Engine Room already runs popular art workshops for all primary aged children and regular art days for people of all ages.

“We’re delighted to provide Graeme with studio space. Creating a piece of artwork for the alter wall of the first new Anglican church in London for 40 years makes this a very special project and we’re delighted to support it. We welcome him to Hale Village and look forward to seeing the finished piece when the Church opens next summer,” said Michael Polledri.

The Diocese of London ran an artwork competition in July 2016 and Graeme was selected out of 21 artists across London and the UK who entered.
